NCAA Places Sanctions on Morgan State’s Athletic Department

By The MSU Spokesman Editorial StaffThe Morgan State University athletics program was rocked Tuesday by NCAA sanctions that will bar the university’s football, softball and women’s tennis programs from postseason play for a year and place the entire athletic department on probation for four years. The NCAA’s Division I Committee on Infractions charged the school with “a lack of institutional control,” alleging that athletics officials violated NCAA eligibility and financial aid rules. The Morgan State Men’s basketball team were riding a three game losing streak, before their Dec. 9 loss at Manhattan College. The Bears were on the road for those three games but the Bears didn’t have to travel far as all the games fell in the DMV area. The Bears losses had a point differential of seven, seven and five.
