Bears drop consecutive conference games for the first time this season

Stephen-Michael Thompson Jr., Staff WriterWith a seemingly safe five point lead coming out of the halftime break against a mid-tier conference opponent, the Morgan State University men’s basketball team looked poised to rebound from their second conference loss of the season against the Delaware State Hornets. The Hornets had a different set of plans, slowly chipping away at the Bears then-growing lead, before a 17-4 run gave them a lead that they held on to the rest of the game to win 56-45. The Bears struggled offensively in the first half. They missed many layups and did not turn their […]

Bears drop to second-place in the MEAC with loss to NCCU

Stephen-Michael Thomas, Staff WriterAfter a typically tough non-conference schedule, the Morgan State University Bears have been clicking on all cylinders to win seven of their last eight games en route to a first-place ranking in the conference. North Carolina Central University visited Morgan on Saturday looking to overtake the Bears atop the MEAC standings, and did just that with a 68-60 victory. Morgan started slow to begin the game, allowing NCCU break the game wide open with an 19-9 lead after 10 minutes of play. The Eagles continued their dominance with an 27-15 lead with 3:43 left to go. Bears continue MEAC dominance with win against visiting Rattlers

Devon Ashby, Staff WriterThe Morgan State University men’s basketball team defeated Florida A&M University, 77-60, to remain first in conference standings. The first half saw the Rattlers miss eight of their first nine shots and while they started to find their rhythm, it was tough to overcome; the Bears shot over 50 percent from the field and connected on several long-range shots. “I’m always going to bring a ton of energy into a game,” said junior guard Tiwian Kendley, who lead all scorers with 21 points. “When I bring energy, it picks [the rest of the team] up.” “Tiwian’s been […]

Basketball Jones continue for the Lady Bears

Ty’Rique Sims, Staff WriterThe Morgan State University Lady Bears (2-19, 0-8) went into Monday’s game searching for their first MEAC victory of the season. Instead, they suffered a second snake bite to the Florida A&M University Rattler Women (6-15, 4-4) losing drastically 61-26. The Rattler Women defeated the Lady Bears 51-48 January 9 in Tallahassee, Fla. This game, however, was far less exciting. Morgan missed their first nine shots in the opening period, resulting in FAMU scoring 16 unanswered points. Junior forward Tykyrah Williams gave the Lady Bears their first bucket of the game with three minutes left in the […]

Late game herorics give Bears double-overtime win

Ty’Rique Sims, Staff WriterOne can do a lot in three seconds. Especially in basketball. Morgan State University’s junior guard Tiwian Kendley too realized three seconds was a plenty of time and hit a shot near half-court at the end of regulation to send the Bears into overtime. Kendley’s running three-pointer tied the game up at 67 en route to a Bears 85-82 double-overtime victory Tuesday night against the Manhattan Jaspers at Hill Field House. That tying shot as regulation ended came in response to Manhattan’s Thomas Capuano’s three that gave the Jaspers a 67-64 lead. After seven lead changes and […]
