Morgan State’s Carr and Kendley Awarded MEAC Preseason Honors

In an announcement Thursday, forward Phillip Carr was named Preseason Player of the Year and guard Tiwian Kendley was named to the Preseason All-MEAC First Team. Carr, a Brooklyn, New York native, led the Bears in rebounding, and was second on the team in scoring last season. Carr becomes the first Bear to be named the MEAC Preseason Player of the Year since former Morgan standouts Kevin Thompson (2010) and Reggie Holmes received it (2009). This game fit a pattern that Morgan has followed as of late: The Bears start out their games strong, then the momentum tends to fade towards the end of games. The Bears travel to battle Howard University at their homecoming (Preview)

by Ty’rique Sims, Assistant Sports EditorThe Morgan State Bears (1-5, 1-2)  are coming off their first win of the season from homecoming, defeating the Savannah State Tigers 48-28. Bears quarterback Elijah Staley had his best game of the season against the Tigers tossing three touchdowns, for 220 yards and zero interceptions. Senior running back Eric Harrell ran for 114 yards and a touchdown. The win against Savannah State gave the Bears offensive unit some positives. Mid-season report on 2017 Fall Sports

During this time Morgan State University’s other athletic teams tend to be overlooked. Morgan has three other teams in competition this fall, attempting to win the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) championship.
