The Lady Bears opened the front end of the games with a 50-43 win, lead by junior Breannan Farrar’s 17 points. Savannah State held a four point lead at the halftime mark, holding Morgan to a 22 percent shooting performance which included 0-7 from beyond the three-point line. Lady Bears put an end to losing streak

Ty’Rique Sims, Staff WriterIt took a team effort for the Morgan State University Lady Bears (3-19, 1-8 MEAC) to pick up their first MEAC victory of the season. Morgan defeated the North Carolina Central University Lady Eagles (3-16, 2-6 MEAC) 44-42 Saturday at Hill Field House. Senior guard Ivy Harrington came off the bench scoring a team high eight points. The team’s leading scorer, junior guard Braennan Farrar also had eight points. Junior forward Tykyrah Williams and sophomore guard Chelsea Mitchell each scored seven points. Lady Bears rebound from loss to win home opener

Stephen-Michael Thompson Jr., Contributing WriterThe Morgan State University Lady Bears defeated the Washington Adventist University Shock 79-28 in their home opener. The Lady Bears lead for the entire contest, holding the Shock to nine first half points and nineteen 2nd half points. Morgan dominated both sides of the court in an intense fashion. Defensively, the Bears full court press froze the Washington Adventist offense throughout the game. The Lady Bears collected 21 steals while holding the Shock to a 21% shooting percentage. Lady Bears prepare to begin the 2016-2017 season

Traevon Benjamin, Contributing WriterThis year’s Morgan State University women’s basketball team will be entering this season hungry for a MEAC title after finishing last season with a 13-16 record. The Lady Bears will be led behind the interim head coach Ed Davis who will begin his first year as head coach at Morgan State after former head coach Donald Beasley was reassigned to a new position at the university in June amidst verbal abuse allegations. Lady Bears collect first season win against Hampton

Stephen-Michael Thompson Jr., Contributing WriterAfter a winless non-conference performance in the first month of the season, the Morgan State University Lady Bears opened MEAC play earning their first season win against the Hampton University Lady Friday evening, 3-1. “It speaks volumes to our conference,” said senior Haley McClure. “Everyone is watching us and wants to see how the team is doing.” The visiting Lady Pirates handedly won the first game with a score of 25-13.
