Bears drop to second-place in the MEAC with loss to NCCU

Stephen-Michael Thomas, Staff WriterAfter a typically tough non-conference schedule, the Morgan State University Bears have been clicking on all cylinders to win seven of their last eight games en route to a first-place ranking in the conference. North Carolina Central University visited Morgan on Saturday looking to overtake the Bears atop the MEAC standings, and did just that with a 68-60 victory. Morgan started slow to begin the game, allowing NCCU break the game wide open with an 19-9 lead after 10 minutes of play. The Eagles continued their dominance with an 27-15 lead with 3:43 left to go. Bears lose the battle of the defenses on Homecoming weekend

Devon Ashby, Staff WriterMorgan State University’s football team came up just short of pulling off a major upset against the North Carolina Central University Eagles in a 21-17 loss, dropping their second homecoming game in as many years. The Eagles entered the football game with an undefeated record in the MEAC and played like it early on, jumping to a 14-0 lead. The Bears eventually found some production on offense, particularly on the ground with sophomore running back Eric Harrell, and they scored 14 unanswered points to tie the game. Morgan’s offense looked decent for much of the contest but […]

Eagles spoil Senior Night at Hill Field House

by Benjamin McKnight III, Editor-In-ChiefComing off of a narrow victory against crosstown rival Coppin State University over the weekend, Morgan State hoped to add another win to end their season and build momentum to take into postseason play. Instead, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks sabotaged Senior Night in Hill Field House on Thursday, winning the contest 80-71 and completing a season sweep on the Bears. In the early portion of the game, the Hawks and the Bears traded baskets and neither team could establish a solid lead. Senior Andrew Hampton, who spent most of the season on the […]

Bears earn 20th loss against North Carolina Central University

by Devon Ashby, Staff WriterMorgan State’s Men’s basketball suffered their twentieth loss of the season and snapped a two-game home win streak after a 73-59 loss at home to the North Carolina Central University Eagles. The Eagles came out of the gates on fire and never looked back. They got whatever they wanted offensively, connecting on 6-15 three-pointers and shooting over 50 percent from the field. Morgan State surprisingly wasn’t bad statistically. Their 36 points inside the paint matched NCCU, they made 88.2% of their free-throw shots (15-17) and they protected the ball at a slightly better rate than did […]
