Governor Martin O’Malley delivers a warm message to Morgan

Maryland Governor, Martin O’Malley recognizes Morgan as an outstanding institution. During his speech at the 145th Founders Day Convocation on November 8th 2012, Omalley said how Morgan State University can strive if the student body would stick together. He spoke amongst an audience of hundreds being students or alumni and gave a heartfelt message about what will strengthen the University. On Sunday September 23, 2012, Morgan State University sophomore Darian Hicks was found dead in the back of his car from an apparent drug overdose. His lifeless body was discovered in front of Marble Hall Gardens, an apartment complex that Morgan students share with Baltimore locals. Typically, news of death, violence, crime or foul play that occurs in the Morgan community spreads quickly. Bears Basketball Preview

The Bears look to have a more successful season this year after returning from a 9-19 season last year. The men’s basketball team started their season off with an away game at The University of South Carolina on Nov. 10. Along with the many different MEAC opponents, Morgan is hoping to compete against tougher teams and has added out-of-conference games against The University of South Carolina, Loyola Marymount University, Virginia Military Institute and others this season. Close, but No Cigar, Bears finish Season 3-8

By  NICK BEDFORD Spokesman Staff Writer On a chilly November day at Hughes Stadium, the Morgan State Bears battled the Hampton Pirates in their final game of the season. The Bears lost in a close one, with 27-17 to end their season on a six game losing streak, Morgan’s longest losing streak since 1996. The Bears just couldn’t quite hold on against Hampton in a competitive game throughout all four quarters.
