Ty’Rique Sims, Staff WriterWhen the Lady Bears Traveled to the University of Richmond for a non-conference match-up earlier this season, they would lose their fourth straight game and hold a 2-10 record on the young season. Many frustrations, confusion and doubts but the Lady Bears still had something to celebrate. Junior guard Braennan Farrar scored her 1,000 career points. Farrar scored on a lay-up in the game against the Spiders solidifying her as the 14th player in Morgan State women’s basketball history to reach the milestone. Men’s basketball looks to translate regular season success at MEAC Tournament

Hundreds of teams will compete in their conference tournaments to secure a spot in the big dance, the NCAA Basketball Tournament. When the Morgan State University men’s basketball team started this season, expectations were relatively low. They were only picked to be tenth in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s (MEAC) pre-season poll, but this year’s team had much higher goals than that. Lady Bears winning streak snapped at home

by Ty’Rique Sims, Staff WriterThe Lady Bears basketball team saw their five-game winning streak come to an end Saturday, as they lost 71-58 to the Lady Pirates of Hampton University at Hill Field House. Hampton (15-12, 9-5 MEAC) improved to 31-11 all-time against Morgan State and has now won 13 straight against the Lady Bears. The win also ended a three-game losing skid for the Lady Pirates, while stopping a four-game home court winning streak by the Lady Bears. The Lady Bears opened the front end of the games with a 50-43 win, lead by junior Breannan Farrar’s 17 points. Savannah State held a four point lead at the halftime mark, holding Morgan to a 22 percent shooting performance which included 0-7 from beyond the three-point line.
