by Blair Young, Staff WriterMorgan State University welcomed Former Vice President, Joseph R. Biden as the guest speaker for the 141st Spring Commencement ceremony. He was received with a rousing applause from the crowd of graduates and their families. His speech began with a brief anecdote about how he first heard about Morgan, growing up in Wilmington, Delaware. “I worked on the east side of Wilmington, I was one of thirteen lifeguards in the big swimming pool, and I was the only white boy… I used to have to sit there in the locker room and hear whether or not […]

Morgan State honors the life of Enoila Pettigen McMillan through an Exhibit

by Devon Ashby, Staff WriterFor decades Enolia Pettigen McMillan, former president of the NAACP, fought for equality for black students and teachers in Maryland’s public school systems. As part of its sesquicentennial celebration, Morgan State University erected an exhibit in her honor. McMillan, who died in 2006, spent 42 years as a teacher and administrator, but it was as a graduate student at Columbia University where she started questioning the inequities in Maryland’s public education system. Far too many times has this been the reality. Far too many times has there been injustice for these victims. Far too many times has there been movements that lacked the support to help make the necessary changes in society, but it doesn’t take an army to inspire support. Something so simple and so relieving, as launching balloons into the sky, just might be the ember that sparks the flame in someone. Friday afternoon, The National […]

Family, friends and students gathered to remember Marcus Edwards

by Devon Ashby and Maliik Obee, Staff WritersThe orange sunset cast down on hundreds of Morgan State students Wednesday evening as they gathered at the atrium outside of the Earl G. Graves School of Business & Management. Tears flowed as cries and wails rang out at the candlelight vigil for slain student Marcus Edwards. Edwards, 21, was found the night of Sept.19, stabbed in the chest at the intersection of Loch Raven Boulevard and Woodbourne Avenue. Edwards was rushed to a nearby hospital, were he succumbed to his wounds. Edwards aspired to be a police officer, pursuing studies in social […]
