Chicago organizer leads Black Lives Matter discussion at Morgan

Diamond Durant, Contributing WriterStudents gathered in the university student center Thursday night for a special event titled, “Do Black Lives Matter to Black People?”, a concrete discussion based around education, economics, war and more in the black community. The open discussion was facilitated by Enoch Muhammad, a southside Chicago native and empowerment specialist with a love for music that led him to birth Hip-Hop DetoxX. Muhammad defines Hip-Hop as “truth without boundaries” and DetoxX as the “removal of poison”, forming the non-profit organization aimed at developing better socio-emotional life skills for youth. Graves School of Business and Army ROTC hosted the Tuskegee Airman Symposium today. Retired Col. Charles McGee, a member of the Army Air Corps, spoke to an audience about his military experience during the desegregation of the armed forces, which began with segregated units. McGee’s accomplishments include over 400 combat missions through three wars – a record that has yet to be broken – before retiring in 1973. Stephen-Michael Thomas, Staff WriterAfter a typically tough non-conference schedule, the Morgan State University Bears have been clicking on all cylinders to win seven of their last eight games en route to a first-place ranking in the conference. North Carolina Central University visited Morgan on Saturday looking to overtake the Bears atop the MEAC standings, and did just that with a 68-60 victory. Morgan defeated the North Carolina Central University Lady Eagles (3-16, 2-6 MEAC) 44-42 Saturday at Hill Field House. Senior guard Ivy Harrington came off the bench scoring a team high eight points. The team’s leading scorer, junior guard Braennan Farrar also had eight points. Junior forward Tykyrah Williams and sophomore guard Chelsea Mitchell each scored seven points.
