The Evolution of Miley Cyrus

Like Britney Spears and many stars who started their claim to fame as preteens, Miley Cyrus has transformed from the all American teen sweetheart to a young women trying to find her own path and identity as an adult. Take a look at the different phases of one of the most talked about stars.

Most of us were introduced to Miley Cyrus as “Hannah Montana” on Disney Channel seven years ago in 2006. Cyrus portrayed a young girl who lived a double life as a teen pop star. She quickly became one of America’s favorite Disney starlets, dancing and singing her way into the hearts of children and preteens. Her musical style was pop with a twang of country, stemming from her country star father, Billy Ray Cyrus.After signing a recording contract with Hollywood Records in 2007, she released her debut album “Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus,” which went on to sell three million copies in the United States. By the age of sweet sixteen, “Hannah Montana” was a hit television show. Cyrus had toured the country in concerts as Hannah Montana. The show lasted for a total of four seasons.

In late 2010, Cyrus’s transition from teen pop, clean girl image to outright rebellious took off during the recording of her third album, “Can’t Be Tamed.” Hannah Montana fans began to steer away from the more adult star. According to New York Times, Cyrus  ranked No. 7 in April on its list of celebrities considered cool by children 8 to 12 years old. In 2008 she was No. 1. Even though the album did not sell as well as her previous two she still remained a very popular figure in pop culture.

Cyrus gained national attention in 2012 when she pronounced that she was engaged to her boyfriend, Australian actor Liam Hemsworth. She made another bold step when she cut off her long brown hair tresses to blond pixie cut. According to E! Online the star commented that she “never felt more herself in her whole life.” Cyrus’s hair transformation solidified that she was making big changes from the teen pop, clean girl image to outright rebellious. She left Hollywood Records and signed a new recording contract with RCA Records.

Under RCA Records, Cyrus’s new album “Bangerz” was released on October 8.  With the help of famous hip hop producer Mike Will Made It, the first single from the album “We Can’t Stop” became one of this summer’s hits. The single has spent 20 weeks on the billboard charts and peaked at number two. When the popular gyrating style dance “twerking” hit  mainstream America when Cyrus made an instagram video participating in the dance. It stamped her new look and attitude as she continued to twerk in her “We Can’t Stop” video, Juicy J’s concert at the House of Blues and a controversial performance with Cyrus and singer Robin Thicke at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.
